Hinamizawa is a secluded village surrounded by mountains, where the simple folk customs have preserved the ancestral practices of worship, known as the Watanagashi. In the summer of 1983, the village welcomed a new resident: Keiichi Maebara (voiced by Sōichirō Hoshi). The new environment was a bit challenging for Keiichi to adapt to, but after meeting the gentle Rika Furude (voiced by Mai Nakahara), the spirited Mion Sonozaki (voiced by Satsuki Yukino), the seemingly frail yet strong-willed Satoko Houjou (voiced by Mikako Takahashi), and Rika Furude (voiced by Yurika Tamura), his new life quickly became vibrant and exciting. As time passed, the annual Watanagashi festival was about to commence, but amidst the festivities, Keiichi began to hear about the hidden past of Hinamizawa and the terrifying incidents known as "Kaminobori," where individuals went missing or died during the festival. Are these rumors true or false? Is the past life of simple joy genuine? As an "outsider," Keiichi unexpectedly draws closer to the truth behind a significant event.
