The Death Weapon Meister Academy, abbreviated as "DWMA." Its students are divided into "Meisters" and "Weapons." According to legend, collecting the souls of 99 evil beings and 1 witch will allow a "Weapon" to evolve into the strongest death weapon, the "DEATH SCYTHE." Aiming to become the strongest "Meister," the scythe "Meister" Maka and her "Weapon" SOUL embark on a tough trial. Also sharing the same goal are the weapon "Meister" BLACK STAR and "Weapon" Tsubaki, along with the son of Death — Death the Kid and his weapon twin gun sisters. The story follows the growth of these three pairs, amidst the looming crisis at "DWMA." The mysterious witch Medusa has ulterior motives; the Grim Reaper does not leave "DWMA," seemingly to hide a massive secret.
