The story takes place in medieval Japan, where Shichika Yasuri (voiced by Yoshimasa Hosoya) is a strong yet simple-minded man born into a family of martial artists, tasked with inheriting the "Kyotoryu" sword style. From childhood, he was raised like a blade, and this twisted education ultimately leads him down a tragic path of patricide. Encouraged and incited by the strategist Togame (voiced by Yukari Tamura), Shichika sets off on a long journey of training to find the twelve famous swords forged by the swordsmith Kiki Shikizaki (voiced by Koichi Yamadera) to enhance his strength. Along the way, Shichika encounters various enemies and, with no other choice, must slay them one by one. However, as his family and friends begin to die around him, the dull-witted Shichika starts to ponder the value and meaning of being a sword.
