The story is set in a world where humans with magical powers are on the verge of extinction; the highest level of combat has shifted from using swords, to using magic, and then to using firearms. The male protagonist, Kusanagi Kyo, who is studying at the "Anti-Magic Academy," a training institution for the "Inquisition Officers" tasked with eliminating the remaining magical threats, is an unconventional character who does not use firearms at all and instead relies solely on a sword to confront enemies. His team, the 35th Test Platoon, is referred to as the "Trash Squad," consisting of a group of underachievers. One day, the elite gun expert, Sakura Hinagiku, who has the qualification of a "Witch Hunter," surprisingly joins this squad. Thus begins a school action fantasy adventure as they set out on a mission to retrieve magical artifacts.
