This holiday season, a new chapter in the globally successful animated film series from Illumination Entertainment is about to unfold, featuring greater dreams and more hit songs. Ambitious koala Buster Moon, along with his all-star animal performers, is set to present the most spectacular stage show of all time… and it's taking place in the dazzling entertainment capital of the world. But there’s a challenge: they must first convince the world’s most reclusive rock star—voiced for the first time in animation by music legend Bono—to join their performance. Buster (voiced by Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey) and his roster of performers have transformed his new Moon Theater into the hottest venue in town, but he now has an even bigger ambition: to hold the premiere of a brand new musical extravaganza at the Kristoff Theater in the glamorous Red Shore City. With absolutely no connections in the entertainment industry, Buster and his team—including the perpetually worried pig mom Rosita (voiced by Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon), rock diva porcupine Ash (voiced by Scarlett Johansson), hard-working gorilla Johnny (voiced by Taron Egerton), shy elephant Mina (voiced by Tory Kelly), and of course, showboating pig Gunter (voiced by Nick Kroll)—must sneak into the office of the world-famous Kristoff Entertainment, run by the cold-hearted entertainment mogul wolf Jimmy Crystal (voiced by Emmy Award winner Bobby Cannavale). Desperate to get Mr. Kristoff's attention, Gunter has a sudden flash of inspiration and gives Buster an over-the-top idea, which Buster reluctantly agrees to: they will guarantee that their new show will star legendary rock lion Clay Calloway (voiced by Bono). The problem is, Buster has never met Clay, and this legendary rock star has been living in seclusion for over a decade after the loss of his beloved wife. No one has seen him since. As Gunter helps Buster create an unparalleled musical stage show masterpiece, the pressure from Mr. Kristoff (and his terrifying threats) intensifies, leading Buster on a grand adventure to find legendary rock lion Clay Calloway in hopes of persuading him to return to the stage. What started as Buster's dream of fame and success transforms into a modern fable, reminding everyone of the powerful ability of music to heal the most broken of hearts.
