Richard (played by Peter Sarsgaard) is a wealthy computer engineer whose life, spent dealing with computers and the internet, has gradually diminished his ability to connect with people. After experiencing repeated bouts of depression and emptiness, he decides to change his life. In a club called "Pandora's Box," Richard encounters the beautiful and seductive stripper Florence (played by Molly Parker). With his deep pockets, Richard immediately bids $10,000 for Florence to spend three nights with him. Florence, originally a drummer in a band, reluctantly takes up stripping due to her financial struggles. Proud and ambitious, she is dissatisfied with Richard's unreasonable demands but cannot resist the generous payment, leading her to propose several harsh conditions. As they negotiate, a deeper emotional connection develops between the two, initially just a simple transactional relationship.
