Having grown up lacking the warmth of family, Izumi Shoto (played by Kento Yamazaki) is filled with hatred and dissatisfaction. He roams the city streets all day, targeting women and the elderly for robbery. During one robbery, he injures a person and then escapes to Chiwa Village, located deep in the mountains of Miyazaki Prefecture, where he temporarily stays with a kind old woman (played by Etsuko Ichihara) to recover from his injuries. He initially plans to steal money and flee once he heals, but the villagers mistakenly believe he is the old woman's grandson, warmly engaging him in conversation and involving him in the preparations for an upcoming festival. Through this process, his self-destructive emotions are somewhat alleviated. Soon after, Michi (played by Mina Fujii), who left the village ten years ago, returns. After meeting Michi, Shoto begins to deeply realize the crimes he has committed...This film is adapted from the bestselling novel of the same name by Asami Nao, who won the Naoki Prize.
