The 1978 film stars Christopher Reeve, who portrayed the character in four versions of the Superman film series. As Krypton is about to be destroyed, scientist Jor-El sends his infant son Kal-El (played by Christopher Reeve) to Earth in a spaceship to ensure the survival of their race. Kal-El is raised by the Kent couple on Earth, renamed Clark, and possesses superhuman abilities, destined to become the guardian of justice and truth on the planet. As he grows up, Kal-El arrives in Metropolis and becomes a reporter for the Daily Planet. In his ordinary life, he is a mild-mannered reporter, but in times of crisis, he transforms into Superman—a guardian who flies freely in the sky in a tight suit and cape. When the evil Lex Luthor attempts to take over the world, Superman is the only one who can stop him.
