This drama tells the inner journey of Mao Zedong from his graduation from Hunan First Normal School in 1918 to his participation in the Party's First National Congress in 1921. During this period, China experienced immense changes. The New Culture Movement brought a wave of Western learning to the East, the glimmer of Marxism first shone upon China, and the May Fourth Movement raised the banner of freedom and democracy. The chaos of warlord conflicts intensified the suffering of the Chinese people... On this historical stage filled with turmoil, various forces surged, the complex and obscure political situation loomed large, and the fate of the nation and its people resembled a small boat in the chilly wind, teetering on the brink of survival. Throughout these years, during the nation's and the people's crisis, Mao Zedong, with grand ambitions and indomitable spirit, sought ways to save the country and its people, gradually growing from a young student into a steadfast Marxist. The drama recounts how Mao Zedong sought truth in the north, organized youth students to go to France for labor and study, led the Hunan anti-Zhang movement, founded the Xiangjiang Review, promoted student and labor movements, and formed the Hunan Communist Group—an inspiring story of how he found Marxism among numerous ideologies and dedicated his life to the struggle for it.
