Ron Williamson was born in 1953 in Ada, Oklahoma. After his baseball career faltered and he had to return to his hometown, his life plunged into despair. In 1982, a young girl was murdered, and this heinous case garnered immense local attention. Lacking evidence, prosecutors and police conspired to convict Williamson, who anxiously awaited his fate on death row, stripped of everything except for his family's support and an unprovable truth: he was innocent. The painful aspect of this true story is that Williamson was a severe bipolar disorder patient, which meant he had a distorted perception of reality and struggled to make sound decisions to clear his name. Yet even in his moments of madness, he continuously proclaimed his innocence day and night from prison. This film is based on John Grisham's work "The Innocent Man: Murder and Injustice in a Small Town" and recounts the events of this case.
