In the 1970s, before China fully opened up, four documentary masters from Italy, France, the United States, and Japan coincidentally arrived in China, capturing all aspects of Chinese life and leaving behind four sensational documentaries—"China" (Italy), "The Foolish Old Man Who Moved Mountains" (France), "From Mao Zedong to Mozart" (USA), and "New Winds in Shanghai" (Japan). These films not only allowed the world to gain a broad understanding of China for the first time, but also provided Chinese people with a precious resource for reflecting on history and reminiscing about their ancestors. Forty years have passed; what changes have taken place in China? Can we still find those ordinary people who appeared in the films? Today, once again, four international friends from Italy, France, the United States, and Japan have come to China. The past films gave them a vague first impression of the country, and now they have decided to see the current China with their own eyes, to witness the tremendous changes that have occurred. Remarkably, they have reconnected with those ordinary people featured in the past imagery, and through close observation and genuine documentation, they present the natural evolution of China's changes over the past forty years. We have documented the explorations of these four seekers in a five-episode documentary over the course of a year, and the transitions between new and old footage visibly reflect the passage of time. The immense transformations are conveyed through what seems like subtle shifts, evoking deep reflection and emotion.
