This 10-part HD documentary produced for the History Channel by award-winning director, writer, and producer Frederic Lumiere utilizes thousands of hours of archival footage, never-before-published diaries, and audio records from the Library of Congress to tell the story of World War II through the eyes of a group of people who encountered it. The greatest conflict between civilizations has been mentioned countless times, with iconic images such as a Frenchman weeping as German soldiers march under the Arc de Triomphe, American troops raising the flag on Mount Suribachi, and the mushroom cloud rising over Hiroshima. The History Channel recreates this historical narrative using the latest technology and its own perspective (released in Fall 2009), a project that viewers waited half a century for. Using stunning full-color HD footage, 1500 hours of restored archival materials, new filmed content, previously unpublished diaries and records, as well as audio from the Library of Congress, the History Channel provides a unique window for audiences to understand this war, examining it through the eyes of those who experienced it. No television program in history or as recorded by the History Channel has ever captured the extreme horrors, indomitable spirit, everyday trivialities, and immense glories of this world-changing war so vividly. This is the History Channel's most ambitious documentary to date, and when interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter, the History Channel claimed it would be "breathtaking." As the producer and director of this documentary, I am naturally busy non-stop. Staying in the studio to work on this project would definitely not achieve the History Channel's goals. I have to travel to Normandy, New York, and even more places. Given the multiple time zones and great distances involved, this project requires a manageable workflow. WWII in HD is produced and directed by award-winning director and editor Frederic Lumiere, a recognized leader in the field of HD production and post-production, who has also worked on projects like The Magic of Fatima. He has propelled the development of RED digital cameras and established Lumiere HD. WWII in HD is co-produced by Lou Reda Productions and Lou Reda, with Scott Reda as executive producer, and Liz Reph and Frederic Lumiere as producers.
