Throughout the vast river of history, emperors are the helmsmen who govern the prosperity of dynasties. The emperors we are familiar with exist only in fragments of historical texts; apart from their political lives, we do not know much about them, especially those distinct and unique figures in history. This film will focus on five of the most colorful emperors, revealing their lesser-known sides. They are the repressed Emperor Sima Rui, the schemer Yang Guang, the artist Li Cunxiu who was sidetracked by the throne, the honest man Zhu Youzang whose life is like a palace intrigue, and the self-indulgent proud emperor Zhu Houzhao. This time, the protagonists are no longer just narrators or glimpses of high-fidelity images. The emperors in the drama live in two parallel spaces; they are both the storytellers and the main characters of the story.
