In the vast river of history, emperors are the helmsmen who command the prosperity of their dynasties. The emperors we are familiar with exist in mere fragments within historical texts; apart from their political careers, we know little about them, especially those with distinctive personalities and unique characteristics in history. This film will select five of the most colorful emperors to reveal their lesser-known sides. They are the repressed Emperor Sima Rui, the scheming Yang Guang, the artist Li Cunxiu who was sidetracked by the throne, the honest man Zhu Youzhuang whose life resembles palace intrigues, and the proud Emperor Zhu Houzhao who embraces freedom. This time, the main characters are not just the narration or fleeting glimpses of high-fidelity representations. The emperors in the drama live in two parallel spaces; they are both the storytellers and the protagonists of the tale.
