A true crime documentary produced by Netflix based on a real story, it recounts the sensational case of novelist Michael Peterson, who was accused of murdering his wife in 2001. MTC score 92, IMDb score 8.2, Rotten Tomatoes freshness 88%. In 2001, crime novelist Michael Peterson's wife, Kathleen, was found dead at the bottom of the stairs in their home. Upon discovering the scene, Michael immediately called the police. However, investigators found that Kathleen's injuries were not consistent with a fall down the stairs and that Michael was the only person at home at the time. Additionally, prosecutors uncovered that 20 years earlier, Peterson had attended a family friend's funeral, where the cause of death was eerily similar to Kathleen's—death at the bottom of the stairs. As a result, Michael Peterson was charged with the murder of Kathleen. The "novelist kills wife" case became a national sensation. In 2003, Michael Peterson was convicted of murdering his wife, but the trial was highly controversial. Later, the case was retried and became increasingly complex. Prosecutors discovered that Michael Peterson was actually bisexual. They considered this as a potential motive for the murder, but could not find more evidence. Michael also claimed that his wife knew about his bisexuality. Consequently, this motive was dismissed. To this day, many people remain uncertain about Michael Peterson's connection to his wife's death.
