22-year-old drug dealer Chris (played by Emile Hirsch) is deeply in debt and being threatened by loan sharks. To save his life, he comes up with a desperate plan: to murder his mother Adele for a hefty insurance payout, enlisting the help of his father, stepmother, and sister Dottie (played by Juno Temple) to share the windfall. However, Chris is unwilling to do the dirty work himself and targets professional hitman Joe (played by Matthew McConaughey). Joe, however, only works for money and won't act unless he's paid enough. In a bind, Chris reluctantly decides to use his sister as a "down payment" to Joe. What he thought was a solid plan soon takes a dramatic turn... The film has won the Saturn Awards for Best Independent Film, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Writing.
