Max arrives in Bartertown and, using his skills, is hired by the Queen as a mercenary to eliminate the Mind Warriors controlling the underground world. However, Max is soon expelled from the desert by the Queen's right-hand man, Master. A group of feral children living in a paradise worship Max as a god and lead him out of the desert. A few of the children, driven by their ideals, bravely head towards Bartertown, and Max returns to the lion's den to save them.
