Cole (Lewis Tan) is a highly skilled but down-and-out fighter who one day mysteriously finds himself being hunted by the freezing sorcerer Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim). With the help of Special Forces Major Jax (Mehcad Brooks), Cole narrowly escapes death and embarks on a journey to find a woman named Sonya (Jessica McNamee). Later, Cole arrives at the temple of Earthrealm's protector Raiden (Tadanobu Asano), where he meets warriors Liu Kang (Ludi Lin) and mercenary Kano (Josh Lawson), who all share a mysterious dragon-shaped mark. The group is about to undergo rigorous training to combat an alien invasion and protect the peace of the universe.
