The humorously eloquent and poetry-loving killer, Bélier (played by Benoît Poelvoorde), hires a film crew at his own expense to document his life. In front of the camera, he unabashedly reveals the entire process of each murder, meticulously explaining different killing techniques. The crew members gradually evolve from mere spectators into Bélier's accomplices, as this madman behaves like a runaway car, speeding towards inevitable destruction… The film had a budget of only $15,000, yet became the most commercially successful film in Belgium that year. It won the SACD Prize for Best Film and the Youth Award at the 1992 Cannes Film Festival, the Best Foreign Language Film Award from the French Film Critics Association in 1993, the Best Actor Award (Benoît Poelvoorde) and Best Film at the 1992 Sitges – Catalonian International Film Festival, and the Metro Media Award at the 1992 Toronto International Film Festival. The film's director, Rémy Belvaux, passed away on September 4, 2006, at the age of 40.
