A runaway from a juvenile detention center, Haiber (Roberto Cobo) leads a group of children to bully a blind old street performer (Miguel Inclán), stealing his money and breaking his drum. In the evening, a nameless country child known as "Little Eyes" (Mário Ramírez) is abandoned by his father at the market. One of the children, Pedro (Alfonso Mejía), takes pity on him and brings him to sleep in a friend's barn. Pedro himself is rejected by his mother (Estela Inda) for spending all his time with delinquents instead of helping the family, and is kicked out of the house. Meanwhile, Haiber, seeking revenge for a past conflict with another boy, persuades Pedro to help him find the other youth. Pedro wishes to break free from Haiber and return to his mother's love, but things are not as simple as they seem... This film was nominated for Best Film at the 1951 Cannes Film Festival and won Best Director. In 1953, it won Best Film from the British Film Institute.
