The extraction of deep-sea oil from the Nixon Oil Field has been unanimously rejected by the environmental community. As a result, Christine Gittons and her assistant, photographer Jack, go to interview the oil field manager, Peter Berry. During their inspection of the underwater siphon, they accidentally discover prehistoric creatures. One day, while they are observing at the sea floor in an elevator, submarine pilot Maizie drills for oil but falls into a marvelous cave with bizarre and extraordinarily beautiful scenery. However, nightmares begin when one night reporter Christine wakes up to a tremor, prompting her, Jack, and doctor and safety officer Parks, engineer McKinney, and diver Elliott to take the elevator down to observe the sea floor. Meanwhile, Maizie and Grady pilot the submarine. At that moment, a colossal creature appears – the prehistoric megatooth shark that existed 65 million years ago. After Grady falls victim to the shark, everyone flees, but the megalodon is attracted by the disturbance and keeps ramming them. They are forced to unlock the elevator's iron lock and allow it to ascend to the surface, where they await rescue by a helicopter. At this point, Maizie, while using the submarine to push them onto the ice, is attacked by the shark and ultimately consumed. McKinney suffers severe leg injuries during the ascent, making him vulnerable to the shark attack as well. Heartbroken, Elliott decides to eliminate the prehistoric megashark with explosives after losing his beloved girlfriend and companions to the shark. With Parks' help, he pilots the submarine to the sea floor for a fierce battle with the shark, leading to their mutual destruction.
