This film, Son of Frankenstein, was made in 1939, bringing together two great horror film pioneers: monster/Boris Karloff and vampire Bela Lugosi. Who else is here? Of course, it's Basil Rathbone, who replaced Colin Clive to play Dr. Frankenstein's son, young Frankenstein. And who else? It's Lionel Atwill. Who is he? He is Professor Moriarty in the classic BR films. You could say that if you watch BR films, you'll discover a lot, and following Basil Rathbone will reveal many treasures. The film was directed by Rowland V. Lee. He had previously worked with BR on adaptations of Agatha Christie's novels, such as "Love from a Stranger" and "Tower of London." In this film, Basil Rathbone reunites with the great monster/Boris Karloff, allowing BR to be recognized by horror film fans who know him as the man who portrayed Sherlock Holmes. In the 1960s, several aging horror legends gathered to make a few films together, and unlike some other old horror stars, BR did not identify himself as a horror actor. He believed he didn't embody any classic horror persona. Indeed, he had never played a vampire (unfortunately), nor any type of monster, simply collaborating with some old horror icons for money. However, he inadvertently created several charismatic characters that nearly overshadowed the monsters and gained many fans, who insisted on elevating him to the title of King of Horror Films. In fact, he was not; he was a classic villain rather than a classic monster. Of course, he was also Sherlock Holmes, although his version of Mr. Holmes was always answering the phone.
