A politically glamorous show. Two passionate young men from West Coast University, Arian (Derek Luke) and Ernest (Michael Peña), inspired by their idealistic mentor Dr. Stephen Malley (Robert Redford), decide to pursue their life ideals actively by joining the fight against terrorism in Afghanistan. However, they never anticipated that the so-called war has nothing to do with human peace or national righteousness; it was merely about surviving on the battlefield. On the other end, the situation in the U.S. is markedly different. In California, troubled Dr. Stephen Malley tries to use Arian and Ernest's enlistment as an example to persuade his student Todd (Andrew Garfield) not to give up on studying politics, but Todd is entirely disgusted by Dr. Stephen Malley’s radical ideas. Meanwhile, thousands of miles away in Washington, presidential candidate and Senator Jasper Irving (Tom Cruise) finds himself caught up in a political conspiracy as he prepares to disclose shocking insider information about the Afghanistan war to TV reporter Janine Roth (Meryl Streep), an action that could directly impact Arian and Ernest who are fighting on the front lines.
