In Major League Baseball (MLB), Billy (played by Brad Pitt) and his team, the Oakland Athletics, lose to the wealthy New York Yankees, which deeply affects him. To make matters worse, three key players are poached for hefty sums, leaving the future of the upcoming season bleak. During a management meeting, everyone is confused, but he makes a quiet resolution to rebuild the team. By chance, he meets Peter (played by Jonah Hill), a Yale economics graduate, and they discover their shared philosophy on team management. With intuition and experience, he feels he has found the key to cracking the code of big-money baseball. He hires Peter as his advisor to explore how to build the highest winning percentage team. They begin to uncover potential stars based on on-base percentages using mathematical modeling, and through persistent negotiation, they recruit them. They disregard the upper management's scorn and focus on finding the sources of confidence and strength for the team, and finally, the new season begins… The film is adapted from Michael Lewis's "Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game."
