This film is adapted from the autobiographical novel by the late Irish genius writer and painter Christy Brown. Kit (played by Daniel Day-Lewis) is born with cerebral palsy and is physically disabled, with only his left foot functioning normally. As a child, he is often mocked by other children, and his father nearly gives up on him, while his mother (Brenda Fricker) continues to care for him diligently and never abandons him. Kit suffers mentally but cannot express himself verbally; he tries to write and paint with his left foot, gradually gaining recognition through perseverance and intelligence. His mother secretly buys him a wheelchair, and he later receives free assistance from Dr. Eileen. Under Eileen's guidance, Kit's physical condition begins to improve. At this point, Kit has fallen in love with Eileen. One day, Eileen recommends Kit's paintings for display at a friend's gallery. After the exhibition, Kit expresses his feelings for Eileen, but she rejects him...
