The story begins with a wedding, as the captain of the barge Atlanta marries the beautiful country girl Juliet. After the marriage, Juliet starts her new life on the boat. At first, she finds the boat life fresh and interesting, and her relationship with her husband is sweet and loving. However, she soon grows weary of the monotonous and dull life, and begins to yearn for the bustling urban life of Paris. To satisfy Juliet, the captain sails the Atlanta to Paris. However, various setbacks occur during the journey, causing delays in taking Juliet to Paris, and the couple's conflicts deepen. Soon, Juliet quietly leaves the Atlanta and goes to Paris alone, and the captain, upon discovering this, angrily sets sail after her. After their separation, the captain is consumed with longing for Juliet, unable to focus on anything. Alone and lost in Paris, will Juliet ultimately choose to stay in the vibrant, bustling Paris, or return to the Atlanta and her beloved husband?
