By chance, Vincent (Vincent Macaigne) encounters a woman named Mona (Golshifteh Farahani). Vincent aspires to be a film actor, but for now, he can only make a living playing extra roles in films. Mona, on the other hand, is an exotic immigrant selling sandwiches at a train station in Paris. Sparks of love quickly ignite between these two small figures at the bottom of society, and they soon become a couple. Happy days don't last long, however, as Vincent discovers Mona's strange behavior. Every night, she secretly goes to the prison alone. Confused by this, Vincent turns to Mona's friend Abel (Louis Garrel) for help, only to inadvertently uncover an astonishing secret that Mona has been trying to hide.
