Jesse Shuttlesworth (played by Ray Allen), a nationally renowned high school basketball star. Jesse is determined to make a name for himself in professional basketball; however, he is overshadowed by his father, Jack Shuttlesworth (played by Denzel Washington), who is a prisoner. Years ago, Jack accidentally killed Jesse's mother during an act of domestic violence. Now, imprisoned and facing a deal due to having a star son, Jack must persuade Jesse to attend a state-mandated college in exchange for a chance at early release. Directed by the well-known American director Spike Lee, the film "One-on-One" features Hollywood's most influential Black star, Denzel Washington, in the role of the father. This is also his third collaboration with director Spike Lee. NBA legend Ray Allen plays the son, Jesse, and won a nomination for Breakthrough Male Performance at the 1999 MTV Movie Awards for his role in this film.
