Biographer George travels to Switzerland to interview Chaplin (played by Robert Downey Jr.), who shares his story in detail... In 1894 Britain, young Chaplin already began stepping in for his struggling mother, a temporary actress, but their difficult life led to the separation of the Chaplin brothers, and their mother was institutionalized due to madness. In 1903, Chaplin, introduced by his brother, joined a British theater company to start his acting career. Soon, he became well-known and received an invitation from an American film studio. In America, Chaplin encountered the dreamlike art of cinema and gained fame and fortune with his unique spirit through this medium. Unable to forget his origins, Chaplin insisted on incorporating a critical spirit into his films after gaining production rights, which led to him being branded as a red sympathizer, bringing many troubles his way. This extraordinary filmmaker experienced political repression, the departure of lovers, successes and failures, and as he aged, he watched his old films in the cinema, shedding tears. This film won the Best Actor award at the 1993 BAFTA Awards, the London Critics Circle Film Awards Annual Actor Award, and the Chicago Film Critics Association Award for Most Promising Actress.
