Chinese-American writer Iris Chang (March 28, 1968 – November 9, 2004) turned her attention to the horrific massacre that occurred in the late 1930s after completing her first work, "Thread of the Silkworm." In 1937, the Second Sino-Japanese War broke out, and within a few months, the Chinese mainland was engulfed in chaos and suffering. The Japanese army advanced rapidly, capturing Nanjing, which was then the capital of the Nationalist government, and subjected the city and its military and civilian inhabitants to inhuman plunder and slaughter. This massacre, which resulted in the deaths of over 300,000 people, became little known after the war for various reasons, with the Japanese side repeatedly denying the existence of the massacre. To restore the historical truth and seek justice for the victims, Iris Chang spent three years collecting a large amount of third-party data and conducting face-to-face testimony interviews with massacre survivors in Nanjing and Shanghai. Finally, on the 60th anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre in 1997, she published "The Rape of Nanking," bringing this "forgotten massacre" into public awareness. In 2004, Iris Chang committed suicide with a gun while preparing for her fourth work. This film is co-produced by the Toronto Si Wei Association and Earth Entertainment (Hong Kong) Limited, with Chinese actress Joan Chen portraying Iris Chang.
