In an American high school, a girl named Maddie (played by Caitlin Stasey) is filming a documentary about her friend, the brash and overbearing cheerleading captain, Alex (played by Felisha Cooper). Alex is riding high with the star player of the football team, Trey (played by Tom Williamson), but unexpectedly meets a tragic end in front of the camera. After this, Tris (played by Brooke Butler) takes Alex's place at the top, and Trey becomes hers. Determined by a mix of grief and anger to ruin Trey and his group of losers' graduation ceremony, she joins the chaotic cheerleading squad and grows closer to Tris, causing concern for her other friend, the oddball Lina (played by Sianoa Smit-McPhee). On a night of wild celebration, a seemingly cursed argument leads to an unexpected incident. Lina attempts to use witchcraft to bring Maddie back to life, but everything spirals into even more unpredictable directions…
