Fourteen-year-old John grew up in a monastery without family or a past. One day, a mysterious woman named Angela (played by Maria João Bastos) finds John and claims to be his biological mother, telling him her story. Angela is the daughter of a marquis, and she fell in love with the count's son, Silva (played by José Afonso Pimentel), which was met with strong opposition from her father. However, rebellious Angela did not yield; she was pregnant with Silva's child and decided to elope with him. Enraged, the marquis sent assassins to kill Silva and did not spare even the unborn child in Angela's womb. Fortunately, with the help of a priest and a mysterious figure, John was able to grow up. After reaching adulthood, John traveled to Paris and met a noblewoman.
