In the distant heavenly realm, there is a group of playwrights who tirelessly write about the lives of every human being. The tea assistant (played by Kenichi Matsuyama), responsible for serving tea to them, is familiar with every character created by the writers and often critiques their writing styles and the various fates of humanity. After unintentionally offering a suggestion to one of the writers, the tea assistant feels responsible when the human girl he has long liked, Yuki Shinjō (played by Ito Ohno), dies in a car accident. Feeling guilty about this, the tea assistant jumps down from the heavenly realm, determined to save the girl at the last moment. Other writers secretly help him by sending characters from their works, such as antique shop owner Ryuichi Kunitani (played by Ren Osugi) and ramen shop worker Hikomura (played by Yosuke Iseya), to aid him in his mission.
