Julia (Cathleen Nesbitt) is elderly and wealthy, but without children, she has no legitimate heir. To resolve this, she seeks the help of witch Blanche (Barbara Harris). Julia tells Blanche that her sister once had an illegitimate son who was given away for adoption, and now she wants to find this poor child to inherit her fortune. Thus, Blanche and her lover George (Bruce Dern) begin their investigation and discover that the family who adopted Julia's nephew perished in a fire, and the arsonist is none other than the person they are looking for—Edward (William Devane). Now, Edward has changed his name and become a jeweler, and fearing the revelation of his past crimes, he hires Maroni (Ed Lauter), who helped him avoid prosecution back then, to kill Blanche and her group.
