The story takes place in Italy in 1914, just before the outbreak of World War I. On a small island called Capri, a shepherd girl named Lucia (played by Marianna Fontana) accidentally stumbles into a mysterious community formed by a group of Nordic free artists while searching for her lost goat. There, everyone is naked and dancing freely to music. This strange scene does not frighten Lucia; she strips down and quickly blends into the joyful atmosphere. Lucia was born into a very feudal family, and her brother wants to marry her off to an old man for profit. In the community, Lucia meets a man named Seb (played by Reinout Scholten van Aschat), who teaches her many unheard-of ways to navigate life, giving her the courage to fight against her fate.
