Lucien is an ambitious young poet from 19th century France. He leaves his hometown and bids farewell to his family, who make a living from printing, to try his luck in Paris. In this vibrant city, Lucien realizes he has entered a world full of lies, where everything is driven by self-interest. In Balzac's "Human Comedy," politics, emotions, fame, and souls can all be traded; every journalist becomes a great writer. Lucien tries to love, to struggle, and to survive amidst all the illusions.
