In the 1920s, amidst turmoil and chaos, there was no place of peace in the land of China. Various warlords rose to power, engaging in fierce battles. The warlord young marshal Hou Jie (played by Andy Lau) was arrogant and domineering, treating civilians as insignificant, but could not escape his own fate. As the saying goes, the flag on the city walls changes frequently; Hou Jie’s glory vanished in an instant. His aide Cao Man (played by Nicholas Tse) schemed to rise to power, his wife Yan Xi (played by Fan Bingbing) left him, and his daughter died. These blows left this once mighty man desolate and hopeless. During his downfall at Shaolin Temple, Hou Jie gradually met monks such as Wu Dao (played by Jackie Chan), Jing Neng (played by Wu Jing), Jing Hai (played by Yu Shaoqun), and Jing Kong (played by Shi Yanneng), and slowly came to understand the karmic causes of his past sins, thus letting go of greed, hate, delusion, arrogance, and doubt, sincerely turning to Buddhism. Meanwhile, greater hardships were approaching Shaolin...The abbot of Shaolin Temple, Shi Yongxin, served as the producer of this film.
