Dorothy (Susan Lynch) and her boyfriend Tony (Iain Glen) have just attended his uncle's funeral. On the train back, a frustrated Tony keeps blaming Dorothy for losing his golf club membership card, despite Dorothy repeatedly insisting she has never even seen that damn membership card. Tony ignores her, becomes furious, and hits Dorothy before ultimately jumping off the train and disappearing.
Feeling aggrieved, Dorothy returns to the apartment alone, only to find the place in disarray, having been wrecked by Tony. The bastard even hung her little dog outside the balcony in his anger; fortunately, the dog was rescued in time and saved from death. However, Dorothy has had enough. She packs her things and leaves this heartbreaking place. While waiting for the bus, she inadvertently encounters a drunken Brian beating his girlfriend Patula (Rachel Weisz). In a fit of anger, Dorothy picks up a stick and knocks Brian out cold.
Afterward, the timid Patula is terrified and in a panic, but Dorothy decisively helps drag Brian back to her home. The two girls throw the drunken man into the bathtub to wait for him to wake up, and it's only then that they have a chance to introduce themselves. Just as they are having a good conversation, they hear a thud from the bathroom and discover that Brian has fallen to the ground and died. Now even Dorothy is panicking, so she tells Patula to claim that her boyfriend is missing, and they must think of a long-term plan.
The next day, Patula's boss Ronnie, who is also Brian's brother, goes to the police station to report his brother missing. Dorothy encourages Patula to file a report, claiming that Brian has been kidnapped and a ransom of one million pounds is being demanded. Detective Hepburn (Alex Norton) is assigned to the case and is the first to arrive at Patula's home to investigate. Unexpectedly, he becomes infatuated with the beautiful Patula, but her flustered demeanor raises his suspicions. However, this detective has ulterior motives...
The situation is becoming increasingly complicated. Besides dealing with Ronnie and Hepburn, the two girls must also find a way to get rid of Tony, who has mysteriously reappeared. How will they resolve everything to ensure their escape? Also, they need to secure that one million pounds to start their new lives.
