The story takes place on the eve of World War II, where Richard (Robert Powell) is an English engineer. By chance, he comes into possession of a code left by a former British spy. Possessing a strong sense of justice, he decides to expose an assassination plot orchestrated by German spies, which leads to him being ruthlessly chased by German espionage agencies. Thus, Richard embarks on a journey of escape, during which he meets Pamela (Karen Dotrice), the daughter of a member of Parliament. Pamela provides protection and assistance to Richard, who is in peril, and during this process, the two gradually become attracted to each other. With Pamela's help, Richard ultimately connects with the police and counter-espionage agencies at a critical moment and deciphers the code he holds. He arrives at the control room of the London Big Ben, where he finds the switch that controls a deadly bomb, saving the lives of thousands.
