Delphine (Catherine Deneuve) and Solange (Françoise Dorléac) are two inseparable sisters, one a redhead and the other a blonde, one skilled in graceful dance and the other blessed with a heavenly singing voice. As the summer carnival approaches, the excitement grows, and Delphine and Solange each have their own tasks during the festivities. The art dealer Guillaume (Jacques Riberolles) admires Delphine's beauty, but Delphine's heart already belongs to the young painter Maxence (Jacques Perrin), who paints her portrait. Meanwhile, Solange meets a young man named Michel (Gene Kelly), and they share a mutual attraction. What Solange doesn’t expect is that Michel is the composer she has been searching for, and she hopes he will read a concerto she has written.
