This film is a remake of the 1984 Hollywood movie of the same name. 12-year-old Dre Parker (played by Jaden Smith) moves from Detroit to Beijing, China with his mother (played by Taraji P. Henson), where he meets a Chinese girl Mei Ying (played by Han Wenwen) who plays the violin at his school. Dre's relationship with Mei Ying draws the discontent of a group led by Cheng (played by Wang Zhenwei). During a fight, the disadvantaged Dre is rescued by the apartment's maintenance man, Mr. Han (played by Jackie Chan), but he offends Cheng's martial arts teacher, Master Li (played by Yu Rongguang).
