Philip is thirty and discovers that he is starting to lose his hair. This late-blooming musician feels that hair loss is a significant disaster. The dermatologist tells him that only his father can tell him how much longer he has before going bald: it seems that every man in the family goes bald at the same age. Philip then returns to his hometown to find out the age at which his father completely went bald—that is, his own age.
