Niu Aiguo (played by Mao Hai) is a shoemaker in a county town, and his sister is Niu Aixiang (played by Liu Bei). Niu Aiguo wants to file for divorce, while Niu Aixiang wants to get married. Niu Aixiang was hurt in a past relationship when she was young, and it wasn't until she was almost 40 that she married the articulate chef Song Jiefang (played by Fan Wei) in search of someone who could converse. However, after marriage, she realizes they have nothing to talk about. Niu Aiguo, finding someone to "talk to," marries Pang Lina (played by Li Qian), but after ten years of marriage, they have completely run out of things to say. Niu Aiguo later discovers that his wife is cheating with the wedding dress shop owner, Boss Jiang (played by Yu Entai). He stages a series of stalking, catching her in the act, and dragging out the divorce process, going through intense emotions of anger, calmness, and eventual relief. When Niu Aiguo is on the brink of a breakdown, others are completely indifferent to him; even his closest comrades and sister cannot empathize with his despair and shame, merely advising him to endure. In the end, Niu Aiguo hears a saying from an old schoolmate, Zhang Chuhong (played by Sun Qian): "Living life is about living for the future, not about the past." It seems he suddenly sees a way out of life.
