Sato Yoshito (played by Kataoka Naoto) lost his father at a young age, leaving him and his mother Aki (played by Ryo) to rely on each other for support. Aki supports Yoshito by running a barbecue restaurant called Negishi-en, which is the only asset left to her by her late husband. Aki is a great cook, and she manages Negishi-en efficiently, attracting many customers. For Aki, the happiest thing is to prepare delicious dishes while watching her son grow up healthy. However, everything changes after a baseless attack by popular food critic Fuyama (played by Matsuo Satoshi) on Negishi-en. The restaurant's popularity declines, and Yoshito hopes that his busy mother can focus more on him. Soon after, Negishi-en announces its closure.
