In the chaotic era of the late Eastern Han dynasty, Liu Bei's two wives and a young concubine, Qilan (played by Sun Li), are trapped in Cao Cao's camp. Guan Yun Chang (played by Donnie Yen) surrenders to Cao Cao (played by Jiang Wen) out of loyalty, but he can never forgive Cao Cao for his ambition to manipulate the Han dynasty. He hopes to return to Liu Bei's side. Cao Cao admires Guan Yu's military talent and benevolent heart, trying to persuade him with the interests of the common people. As Yuan Shao raises his army against Cao, Guan Yun Chang kills Yan Liang on the battlefield and is titled the Marquis of Han Shou Ting. He forms a bond of camaraderie with Zhang Liao (played by Shao Bing). After Cao Cao sends Liu Bei's two wives back, he adds an aphrodisiac to Guan Yun Chang's wine, intending to make him have an immoral relationship with Qilan. Guan Yun Chang has secretly harbored feelings for Qilan, even going so far as to kill officers and soldiers for her, but this relationship is ultimately hindered by familial propriety. When Guan Yun Chang regains consciousness, he takes Qilan and rushes to Liu Bei, breaking through numerous barriers along the way, leaving behind the legendary tale of "passing five gates and slaying six generals"…
