The East and West find themselves in a wondrous standoff. Some within the KGB, for their own personal gain, orchestrate a series of conspiracies. Firstly, Koskov falsely pretends to "defect" to the West and reveals that the KGB is planning an operation called "Operation: Resurgent Dragon," aimed at eliminating agents of the 00 section. 007 suspects his motives, fakes an assassination attempt, and uncovers Koskov's involvement in smuggling drugs with funds meant for purchasing arms. With the support of anti-government forces, 007 ultimately destroys the drugs, and Koskov's plan is completely thwarted.
