Ryan is a womanizing stockbroker whose unethical business practices cost him his job and his trader's license. Unable to find another job, he is forced to move in with his equally self-involved (and completely oblivious) girlfriend, Cindy, an insensitive advice columnist on the cusp of losing her own job due to her poor advice and slow work habits. Finding that the truth behind his moving in has nothing to do with romance, Cindy runs off with another man. Ryan decides to stay in the apartment and earn a living by doing Cindy's job. Ryan establishes himself with Cindy's editor, Page, as Cindy's go-fer, collecting Cindy's paychecks and mail and delivering "her" columns. Initially as hopelessly inept as Cindy in giving advice, he nearly gets the column canceled. However, he rapidly grows into the job and the combination of forced introspection, research and the growing knowledge that he is touching other people's lives transforms him. The column becomes an amazing success. Ryan finds his initially superficial attraction to Page growing into love, but he cannot reveal his feelings while he is a deceptive fraud. Meanwhile, Cindy becomes aware of "her" growing fame, and returns to cash in, at the same time that the owner of a rival newspaper chain attempts to force Page to sell "Cindy's" column to him. Story summary: Ryan is a talented trader who not only performs well at work but also has a beautiful and sexy girlfriend. In a bid to become a shareholder at his company, he takes a risky plunge to make a big deal. With some insider information from newspaper tycoon Simpson, Ryan informs his clients, hoping for huge profits that would turn his life around. However, unbeknownst to him, his lover is Simpson’s wife. The leak is merely for revenge against Ryan. Overnight, Ryan loses everything—his job, his large house, and his car. Even his lovely girlfriend Cindy leaves him for a diamond mine owner in Africa. Ryan's life falls into chaos, and his mental state nears collapse. But a call to Cindy saves him; her submission deadline as a newspaper columnist is imminent. However, Cindy is in Africa, so Ryan ingeniously decides to take over her job to earn some money. The articles Ryan writes in Cindy's name infuriate editor Miss Hansen, who decides to cancel the column. Ryan pleads and presents various arguments to change her mind, even resorting to using his looks to bribe the old and ugly secretary. Eventually, Miss Hansen agrees to give Ryan another chance. To write better articles, Ryan diligently studies various women's magazines, hoping to provide better advice to readers. His hard work pays off, and the newspaper featuring his articles sells quickly, changing Miss Hansen’s opinion of him. Of course, the author's name remains Cindy, and overnight, Cindy becomes a sensational name. Major newspapers are eager to catch a glimpse of her, hoping for exclusive insights. Ryan can only offer excuses that Cindy is ill and hard to meet, which only piques more curiosity. The success of Cindy's column drives Simpson to envy, and he pressures Miss Hansen to transfer Cindy's rights to him. Despite being in a difficult position, she firmly refuses him. During this time, having spent some time together, Ryan and Hansen gradually develop feelings for each other. Hansen discovers the truth behind the situation, and they support each other against the relentless Simpson, ultimately emerging victorious.
