Bill (Aaron Eckhart) doesn't understand how his life has fallen to such depths. In the bank run by his father-in-law, he is an unremarkable, hopeless clerk, and in what should be a warm and happy home, his wife Jess (Elizabeth Banks) is indifferent to his lack of ambition, instead engaging in a flirtatious relationship with news anchor Chip (Timothy Olyphant). Looking at himself, with a large belly and an unsettling hairline, everything has made him lose hope in life. In a chance encounter, Bill meets a mysterious youth (Logan Lerman) and beautiful lingerie salesperson Lucy (Jessica Alba). With their encouragement and help, Bill regains his confidence and decides to undergo a complete transformation from the inside out.
