Adventurer Ben Gates (played by Nicolas Cage) embarks on a more challenging treasure-hunting journey. The death of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, has remained an unsolved mystery in American history. Investigations reveal that the assassin John Wilkes Booth was actually incited by others to commit this shocking crime. During a public speech, a man in the audience named Mitch Wilkinson (played by Ed Harris) claims that Gates's grandfather is linked to Lincoln's death. Thus, Gates begins to investigate clues related to Booth and discovers a book called "The National Treasure," which holds the key to all answers. However, only the President of the United States knows its location. In pursuit of the truth, Gates takes a risk and kidnaps the President.
