Deira Mears (played by Kim Basinger) lives with her husband Kenneth (played by Craig Sheffer) and their lovely children in a wealthy suburban area near the city. They lead a comfortable life with no food worries but are equally plagued by endless troubles. Deira is gentle and virtuous, serving as the supportive wife, while Kenneth has a short temper and occasionally erupts at her. On Christmas Eve, Kenneth's anger leaves Deira feeling disheartened, prompting her to go shopping momentarily to lift her spirits. However, things go awry as Deira gets entangled with four young men: Huey (Jamie Starr), Weng (Leonard Wu), Thomas (Luis Chávez), and Chucky (Lukas Haas) in the parking lot. A police officer attempts to intervene but is killed by Chucky and the others, prompting Deira to flee in fear.
